Mario: Robot Boxer

I recently howled my way through Star Odyssey, a horrible Italian sci-fi movie from one of our Z-grade, 50-movie packs from Mill Creek. It was so hilariously awful that I decided to pay homage to it on YouTube. Here's the result:

Sci-Fi Corporations: Umbrella

When your corporation is called Umbrella, and builds a scientific complex named The Hive underneath a city known as Raccoon, you must exist in films based on video games. But the Resident Evil under Raccoon City is more than just the Umbrella Corporation. The company develops and accidentally releases the deadly T-virus, but once they escape, the resultant mutant zombies do the real dirty work on the surface. It's up to Milla Jovovich and a rotating team of human sacrifices to right Umbrella's wrongs, and smack down the undead.

A Week-Long Pause Button

Up against the usual Libsyn space issues, Cavebabble will take this week off, and return next weekend. It might not have mattered if we had the space, anyway. It's Amber's birthday, so we have other things on our agenda. So, please come back next week for our latest episode! In the meantime, I'll post a new sci-fi corporation or two. I cheated a bit with last week's Stark choice. Calling Iron Man a science fiction film is rather pushing it. Then again, as I brainstorm new corps, I'm sure this designation will be stretched even more. Thanks for listening, everyone!

Sci-Fi Corporations: Con-Amalgamate

In Capricorn One, Con-Amalgamate manufactures the faulty life-support system that "forces" the powers that be to fake a landing on Mars instead of actually going there. Con-Amalgamate is also a mining company in Outland, where it whistles and turns a blind eye as miners take deadly performance-enchancing drugs in order to boost productivity. The tie between these films is director Peter Hyams. I wonder if he works for the company?

Cavebabble Episode 14: There's Singing in My Movie

Liz makes her triumphant return to the cast, just in time to sing with us. We cover six musicals, yet somehow the conversation includes Sylvester Stalone, Tony Stark, and the X-Men. Join us! The song at the end of the show is Tikal, from my latest album. This week's podcast is brought to you by High B Flat.

Sci-Fi Corporations: Stark Industries

Founded by Howard Stark, Stark Industries is an advanced technologies company currently headed by Howard's son, Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark. As a side gig, Tony is also Iron Man. Tony uses the considerable assets of the company to manufacture his armor, as well as various nifty weapons and vehicles. The Stark Industries logo looks quite similar to that of Lockheed Martin, which Tony assures us is pure coincidence.

Cavebabble Episode 13: Listen to the Game

As in film, the right music in video games sets the mood, and drives the action. Tonight, we each choose three great game soundtracks to discuss. So, bring your headphones, and plug in! This week's podcast is brought to you by the Soundtrack of Life.

Sci-Fi Corporations: Lexcorp

Poor Superman. As he toils away as a reporter at the Daily Planet, Lex Luthor's livin' large as the founder/CEO of Lexcorp. But every now and then, Lex comes up with a crazy plan to take over the world, and Superman is there to smack him down again. At those times, only yelling at Miss Teschmacher can make him feel better.

Cavebabble Episode 11: Our Game Heroes

Tonight, a friend joins us to babble about our top game heroes, and is introduced with her own theme song. We think everyone deserves a theme song which plays whenever they make an appearance... and not just on our podcast. Join our cause!

Sci-Fi Corporations: Soylent

"It's people!" screams Chuck Heston in Soylent Green, and he's right. The world is overpopulated, and natural foods virtually nonexistent. Luckily, the Soylent Corporation has developed a tasty green treat, and a healthy alternative to burial. Yum! Considering the lengths this company goes to protect its trade secrets, I doubt the logo above is part of their advertising... but it's great!

No Show!

We are down to one podcaster tonight, and rather than recording me mumbling for half an hour, we will simply reboot next weekend, bright and shiny after Christmas. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to download and listen to our episodes so far. As promised last week, our whirlwind format is going to change a bit, as we narrow the focus of each show in order to offer more in-depth discussions.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone, and we will return next Sunday!

Sci-Fi Corporations: Blue Sun

If some corporations are shady, others are inscrutably dark. Firefly didn't last long enough to fill in the nefarious details of this ubiquitous company. Nor did Serenity. Blue Sun advertising is prominent in both, with various hints and clues to a deeper agenda than providing food. We may never know...

Cavebabble Episode 10: Superheroes on Film

We have a weakness for spandex, so decide to chat about heroes that have made the leap from ink to screen. There are more than we can possibly cover in one show, but that has never stopped us before. This episode is brought to you by my kung fu action grip.

Sci-Fi Corporations: Zorg

In the universe of The Fifth Element, Jean-Baptiste Zorg is both a man and a company. Hired by Mr. Shadow to find and deliver four powerful elemental stones, Zorg step-clanks his way through the galaxy, spreading his special blend of chaos and questionable fashion sense. No multi-pass required.
